Elizabeth Whittaker – Betty to some, Nana to me – was a loving, talented, energetic, and independent woman. A photo can't come close to capturing all that she was to her loving family. Attending art college in the early 1900's was unusual enough, and then opening an interior design shop on 2nd Avenue in New York – wow. I could see how proud she was of her accomplishments when she talked about those early days and can only imagine where her talent would have taken her had she continued. But there is no question that becoming a mother was the greater joy for her, and her son (my father) was the best part of her life without a doubt. As a grandmother she was fun, caring, and always up for an adventure. I can't forget that one epic game of Twister. Or the peanut butter cookies she always had ready for us when we visited her home in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Nana taught me so much. I miss her constantly, and simply remain grateful that she was a part of my life.
