My daddy was the kind of man who made life sweeter just by being in it. He loved simple joys such as Cherry Yum Yum, Dum Dum suckers and a slice of French apple pie or two. He never met a dessert he didn’t appreciate. But more than anything he loved people. He loved family. He loved learning, always researching, always curious, especially about our ancestry and the generations that came before him. He loved watering his yard, plants and flowers. He always started and ended a conversation, voice mail or text with “Hey honey” and “I love you, honey.” Some of my favorite memories throughout the years are hearing his stories, going to church, vacations as a family, listening to his Navy stories ( he was a proud US Navy veteran), checker games, seeing him play with his great grandsons, spending time outside with him, going on so many adventures and planning more for the future. When Trellis lights shine, they shine for a man who valued connection, kindness, and home. A man who believed family mattered. A man whose love still surrounds us. Though he is deeply missed, his warmth remains, in the sweetness of dessert shared, in stories told, in the way we care for one another. This light shines in honor of my dad. Our steady presence, our storyteller, our heart. Forever loved. Forever remembered.
